Objective and Scope
As part of the Waterloop Hyperloop Design Team, we set out to design a new battery pack from scratch for our propulsion pod. The goal was to create a more compact, reliable module under a tight project deadline.
Approach
- Brainstorming: Contributed during the design sessions, where the team explored and brainstormed approaches for designing compact cell connections and module layout.
- Sigma Clad Design: Took responsibility for the sigma clad, modelling the sigma clad using SolidWorks and preparing the waterjet cutting files.
- Assembly: Helped assemble the battery pack, specifically spot welding the sigma clad onto the cells to secure electrical connections and ensure pack integrity.
Outcome
- Delivered a more compact and reliable battery module than the previous design, with tidier routing and more secure cell connections.
- Gained hands-on experience in design collaboration, CAD-to-fabrication workflows, and assembly (spot welding) under tight deadlines.
